Want a tap fitted in the garden, or got an outside tap that's seized, dripping or split after the winter? We fit and replace outside taps across Hull & East Yorkshire — done properly, to the water regs, with an indoor isolation valve, a double check valve and frost protection built in. Phone us and we'll book it in and give you a price.
What we fit and fix
An outside tap is one of those small jobs that's worth getting right. We handle the lot:
- New outside or garden taps fitted through the wall, with a neat run inside and out
- Replacing seized, dripping or split taps — common after a hard frost
- An indoor isolation valve so you can shut the tap off without turning off the whole house
- A double check valve fitted so the installation meets the Water Regs
- Frost protection and winterising, so the tap survives next winter
If your old tap has split and let water in, take a look at our tap repairs too — and if a burst has soaked the floor or a cupboard, we can sort that as part of the same visit.
Why a proper outside tap matters
A tap on its own isn't really the job — it's everything behind it that counts. Here's what we always fit and why:
- Indoor isolation valve — lets you turn the outside tap off from inside before the cold weather, so the bit exposed to frost can be drained and left empty. No more burst pipes in January.
- Double check valve — stops water from a hose or water butt being drawn back into your drinking water. This is the part that makes the installation compliant, and it's not optional.
- Frost protection — we position and lag the pipework sensibly, and fit the right tap, so a cold snap doesn't split it.
The water regs — in plain terms
Outside taps are notifiable under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations. In plain English: a garden tap is a point where dirty water could be sucked back into the clean mains — through a hose left in a paddling pool or a bucket of soapy water — so the rules require a backflow device (the double check valve) to prevent it. We fit every outside tap to that standard as a matter of course. It's the difference between a tap that's done properly and one that's a problem waiting to happen.
While we're at it, if your run of pipe to the tap is long or exposed, it's worth sorting the pipework & frost protection at the same time rather than coming back to it later.
How booking works
It's phone-first and by appointment — no automated booking, no waiting around all day:
- Phone us on 01482 680247 (Hull) or 01724 501258 (Scunthorpe) and tell us what you need — a new tap, or a replacement.
- We'll talk through where you want it and give you a price up front.
- We book a slot that suits you and turn up when we say we will.
We cover Hull, Brough, Hessle, Beverley, Anlaby, Willerby, North Ferriby, Swanland, Elloughton, South Cave and Barton. Most outside taps are a straightforward visit. You can see the rest of our plumbing services if you've got other bits that need doing while we're there.
