Outside & Garden Taps

Outside taps fitted to water regs — Hull & East Yorkshire

Want a tap fitted in the garden, or got an outside tap that's seized, dripping or split after the winter? We fit and replace outside taps across Hull & East Yorkshire — done properly, to the water regs, with an indoor isolation valve, a double check valve and frost protection built in. Phone us and we'll book it in and give you a price.

What we fit and fix

An outside tap is one of those small jobs that's worth getting right. We handle the lot:

  • New outside or garden taps fitted through the wall, with a neat run inside and out
  • Replacing seized, dripping or split taps — common after a hard frost
  • An indoor isolation valve so you can shut the tap off without turning off the whole house
  • A double check valve fitted so the installation meets the Water Regs
  • Frost protection and winterising, so the tap survives next winter

If your old tap has split and let water in, take a look at our tap repairs too — and if a burst has soaked the floor or a cupboard, we can sort that as part of the same visit.

Why a proper outside tap matters

A tap on its own isn't really the job — it's everything behind it that counts. Here's what we always fit and why:

  • Indoor isolation valve — lets you turn the outside tap off from inside before the cold weather, so the bit exposed to frost can be drained and left empty. No more burst pipes in January.
  • Double check valve — stops water from a hose or water butt being drawn back into your drinking water. This is the part that makes the installation compliant, and it's not optional.
  • Frost protection — we position and lag the pipework sensibly, and fit the right tap, so a cold snap doesn't split it.

The water regs — in plain terms

Outside taps are notifiable under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations. In plain English: a garden tap is a point where dirty water could be sucked back into the clean mains — through a hose left in a paddling pool or a bucket of soapy water — so the rules require a backflow device (the double check valve) to prevent it. We fit every outside tap to that standard as a matter of course. It's the difference between a tap that's done properly and one that's a problem waiting to happen.

While we're at it, if your run of pipe to the tap is long or exposed, it's worth sorting the pipework & frost protection at the same time rather than coming back to it later.

Common questions

Things people often ask

Still not sure? Phone us — we’re happy to talk it through.

How much does an outside tap cost to fit?

A new outside tap fitted is typically from £90, including an indoor isolation valve, a double check valve and frost protection. The exact price depends on how far the tap is from your mains and how easy the wall is to get through — we'll give you a firm price over the phone before we book it in.

Do outside taps need to meet the water regulations?

Yes. Outside taps are notifiable under the Water Regs and need a double check valve to stop dirty water being drawn back into the mains. We fit every tap to that standard, so you don't have to think about it.

Can you replace an outside tap that's split or seized?

We do this all the time, especially after winter. We'll replace the tap, fit an isolation valve and check valve if they're missing, and set it up so it doesn't split again next year.

What's a double check valve and why do I need one?

It's a small backflow device that stops water from a hose or butt being sucked back into your drinking water. It's what makes an outside tap compliant — it's not optional, and we fit one as standard.

Will my new tap survive the winter?

That's the idea. We fit an indoor isolation valve so you can shut the tap off and drain the exposed section before a cold snap, and we lag and position the pipework to keep frost off it. Turn it off in autumn and you'll have no trouble.

Do you fit outside taps in Beverley and the villages?

Yes — we cover Beverley, Brough, Hessle, Anlaby, Willerby, North Ferriby, Swanland, Elloughton, South Cave and Barton as well as Hull. Give us a ring and we'll book you in.
